Staying alive during the COVID-19 times and regaining health has been the toughest struggle for almost everyone in the world these past few years.
While for those surviving the Corona pandemic seemed to be a blessing, the aftermath has also been dreadful with many people suffering from various side effects of the pandemic as well as the medications that were prescribed by the health experts.
One of the silent pandemics that also surged post-pandemic is stress. It has silently and in a queer way seeped into the lives of many people and slowly its effects are coming to the fore. From high-stress levels to increased anxiety, panic attacks, and hysteria, many people are facing multiple issues emotionally.
Children are the most affected
Studies have shown that the mental health, as well as the overall well-being of the children in the countries that were most affected by the pandemic, has been decreasing dangerously as they are unable to cope with the socio-economic fallout that is occurring in their surroundings.
Since they have survived life-altering and life-threatening conflicts, these children continue to fear and are still suffering from trauma that has led to chronic stress.
Their daily uncertainty, anxiety, and hardships are slowly compounding into chronic stress and it can further take a devastating toll on their mental health.
WHO called countries to set up mental support and health services
A study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) after the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed that there has been a huge surge of 25% in anxiety and depression cases. That is why the global organization has asked leading countries to set up mental health support and services to tackle this growing problem.
One of the major factors that has caused this rise in unprecedented stress is social isolation which was mandatory for survival during the pandemic. People were unable to meet even their close friends or seek support to engage in groups or communities which triggered feelings such as loneliness and disturbed mind-set.
Apart from that many people lost near ones which was also a big trauma as families at the time lost several relatives and could not comprehend how to react or carry on with life without them.
Financial pressures also mounted due to the loss of earning members and huge treatment expenses which has also led to chronic stress becoming a silent pandemic.
