MINDSET REALITY 🫣: I get in my own head too. Living on autopilot and forgetting how my choices affect my life sometimes make me overlook the importance of self-awareness. We all do it. Nobody is perfect. We’re all just here figuring things out as we go.
Your choices affect your success.
Your success affect your expectations.
Your expectations affect your happiness.
Remember that it’s never too late to make a change. Even if you feel like you’ve made choices in the past that have led you down a path of unhappiness, you can always make new choices that align with your values and goals. By staying mindful and present, you can continue to make choices that contribute to your overall well-being and happiness.
BE PRESENT TO OBSERVE YOUR BEHAVIORS
STORY TIME 📖: My current morning routine, or lack-thereof, sometimes changes my mindset. My youngest daughter likes to wake up early. I am not a morning person. I’ve tried. I’ve faked it. I’ve failed. I need at least 30 mins of quiet alone time in the morning before I can pleasantly interact with others. I don’t get that right now with young kids. I mean, I could, but I don’t. So I often start my mornings off pretty crabby, which is not ideal.
Did you catch that caveat? I COULD have that alone time, but I CHOOSE not to. I 100% could have that quiet time in the morning if I really, really wanted it. But I make a choice when my 5AM alarm goes off. Do I want my alone time, or do I want to sleep a little more? I often choose the latter, and I choose the consequence that comes along with it.
SELF-AWARENESS IMPROVES YOUR LIFE
One way to ensure that we are making choices that align with our values and goals is to reflect on our past choices. By examining the outcomes of our decisions and reflecting on how they made us feel, we can gain clarity on what is truly important to us. This self-reflection can help us to make more mindful choices in the future and lead to greater fulfillment and happiness.
The trick to all of this is self-awareness. The awareness that you’re making the choice and it’s not just all about circumstances. Just because you worked hard for something, but didn’t end up getting it, doesn’t mean that you didn’t do the right thing, you didn’t work hard enough, or you’re not good enough. When you don’t get something you think you deserved, it’s not time to give up. It’s time to reflect, make adjustments, and try again or try a different path. Believing you’re not good enough but then defaulting to living on autopilot without adapting anything will not create change.
You choose your own adventure. Pick a different ending. You have a choice in how you live your life and how you respond to life’s barriers. This may feel like a season of success, or it may feel like a season of defeat. Either way, you choose your next step. Are you going to sulk, or are you going to try to work your way out of it?
FOCUS ON YOUR VALUES TO FIND HAPPINESS
Making decisions can have a significant impact on our overall happiness. When we make decisions that align with our values and goals, we tend to feel more fulfilled and content. On the other hand, when we make choices that are not in line with our values or goals, we may experience feelings of regret or discontent.
One way to make more conscious choices is to practice mindfulness and being present. By taking the time to check in with ourselves and become more self-aware, we can better understand our values and goals. When we are more in tune with ourselves, we can make choices that are more aligned with our desires and needs.
Mindfulness can also help us to become more aware of the impact that our choices have on others. When we are present and fully engaged in our interactions with others, we can make choices that are more considerate and compassionate.
In short, our choices have a powerful impact on our overall well-being and happiness. By practicing mindfulness and being present, we can make more conscious choices that lead to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
