Thiruvananthapuram: Reports indicate that even as PSC examinations are being held, the government is making moves to stabilize DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) lecturers through backdoor appointments. As per the order issued by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal, the inspection of the teachers’ certificates will begin this week. They are directed to appear before the Under Secretary of the Education department.
The current move is to stabilize 89 teachers who are members of the ruling party’s teachers union. The candidates allege that this is being done by misinterpreting the deputation appointment order. Despite complaining to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and others against this, no action has been taken.
DIET strike committee President K. Dileesha and Secretary K. Vijesh informed that they are prepared to approach the high court against this illegal appointment. The PSC exam for the appointment of DIET lecturer is currently underway.
The tenure of the 89 teachers on deputation will end in November. The government is attempting to stabilize them before this. 75 lecturers, 70 senior lecturers and seven Principals appointed in 2008 were confirmed last year. The government has made it clear through an order that those after the special rule of 2011 are not eligible for permanent appointment.
The Director of General Education had also informed the tribunal at one point that there was no provision to stabilize those on deputation. But the tribunal judgment of August 18 has directed the government to take an appropriate decision.
It is alleged that the tribunal was not informed about the fact that the government has ordered only those who were registered before 2011 can be made permanent.
