The birth anniversary of Father of the Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was observed across the district on Monday. District Judge Anmol Pal after hoisting the national flag and garlanding the portraits of the heroes paid his tributes in a programme organised under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in the Civil Court. He said it will be a real tribute to the leaders if we followed their path honestly. He exhorted the people to adopt the path of dedication and honesty for the progress of the nation. Secretary of the DLSA and ADJ Lal Babu said Gandhi was committed to cleanliness.
District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan after hoisting the tricolour at the Collectorate building garlanded the statue of Gandhi at Gandhi Ghat. She garlanded the statues of heroes, including Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, at Shaheed Udyan. Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinanandan garlanded the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Police Lines.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP/City) Srikant Prajapati and Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Shailendra Tripathi hoisted the flag at the police office, CO (City) Ajay Singh at City Kotwali, CO (Lalganj) Manjari Rao at Lalganj police station, CO (Operation) Anil Kumar Pandey at Madihan police station and CO (Chunar) Uma Shankar Singh at Chunar Kotwali. At the Rajdeep PG College Kailhat a day-long programme was organised and Director RB Singh addressed a gathering.
MISHAP DEATH: One person died in road mishap in an area under Kachhawaan on police station on Sunday. According to a report, Azad Kumar Bind (55), a resident of Bachchhaanv Meerapur village under Mirzamurad police station in Varanasi was on the way on his bike when it was hit by a vehicle near Barapur village under Kachhawaan police station. After the accident the vehicle driver managed to flee from the spot.
On getting information the police reached the spot and brought the victim to the hospital where the doctor declared him as brought dead. On the basis of the papers recovered from his pocket the police informed the kin of the victim and completed the legal formalities.
