Indians, who hold a deep affection for this dumpling delicacy, have often experimented with various flavours and additions to dim sum or momos. Whether it’s incorporating chocolate into the filling or deep-frying the soft dumplings in sugar syrup, they’ve left no stone unturned in their culinary exploration. In the past, a viral video showcased momos filled with pineapple fruit, offering a slightly sweet and tangy taste. However, netizens were less than thrilled with this quirky combination, expressing their disapproval on social media.
“Healthy momos” recipe
In an Instagram reel, a user known as “@karenverm_a” demonstrated his creation of what he termed “gym waale momos” (gym-style momos). In the video, the chef starts by carefully peeling cabbage leaves and setting aside the head. He proceeds to blanch the cabbage in boiling water and gently peel off the top layers. Following this, he finely chops onions, mushrooms, green chillies, and more mushrooms. Grated paneer is incorporated into this mixture along with chaat masala, salt, and pepper. He then skillfully assembles the filling inside the cabbage leaves and seals them.
To give these unique momos a flavorful touch, he pan-fries them in ghee. The video has garnered over 2 million views and hundreds of thousands of comments, with some users criticizing the dish while others expressed gratitude to the chef for the innovative idea.
One comment read, “So nice… bhai agli baar net off krke kuch aise recipe upload krio” (Try uploading a recipe like this after disconnecting your internet), while another teased, “Bhai bina aate ki roti banake bhi dikhado ab” (Now try making rotis without flour). On the positive side, one user said, “This is awesome… so healthy… thanks so much for sharing.”
