Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the NCF in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Odisha school and mass education minster Sudam Marndi said, “We will look into it and after consultation with stakeholders decide if we will implement it or not.”
However, parents said there should be more clarity on the proposed plans in NCF which is likely to be implemented from the next academic session.
Parents said there is a lot of confusion as information on implementation of NEP in sketchy. “We are not sure what is going to be implemented finally. People are saying that there will be one board and 5+3+3+4 system will be followed. New textbooks will be released and now we have two board exams in a year and an extra language. I am not sure if the new system will reduce the stress of students or overburden them,” said Rudya Narayan Sahu, parent of a Class IX student.
The NCF proposes that Class X board would have seven subjects instead of the five now while Class XII will have six subjects against five.
“The extra subject may become a burden on students who are preparing for entrance examinations. The government should take steps to reduce the stress levels of students. Two board exams may help students as they can select the best marks, but they have to prepare for both the exams along with entrance tests,” said Madhusmita Rout, a parent.
The NCF has proposed that in Classes XI and XII, students will have to study two languages and one of them must be an Indian language. Besides, in Classes XI and XII, students can choose subjects from across the arts, science and commerce.
“I am not very sure about how the new system will benefit students. Apart from two languages, students will have to select four subjects from three groups. Hope the transition to the new system will be smooth,” said Reesha Mishra, a Class XI student.
