New Delhi: A perfectly fit MMA fighter, had to get part of his ‘healthy’ lung hacked off after horrifying photos revealed it riddled with black spots, due to his addiction to vaping from ‘morning to night’.

Twenty-year-old Sean Tobin first started vaping in 2018, claiming that he got through one 5,000-puff disposable vape a week at the height of his habit.

However, Tobin says he could never get of out it, and in the last five years he vaped constantly from morning until night, alongside occasionally smoking marijuana, Daily Mail reported.

According to doctors, Sean suddenly felt a stabbing pain in his back while he was working as an electrician last month, and after extensive tests, he was diagnosed with lung damage.

Doctors at the New Hampshire hospital said they made an incision between his ribs and inserted a chest tube in an attempt to push out the trapped air that was crushing his lung and chest. However, after the lung did not heal Sean had to undergo another grueling surgery in which a small portion of the top of the lung was chopped off and later stapled back together.

Doctors said the afflicted organ was then glued to his chest wall to prevent it from collapsing again.

Doctors confirm vaping collapsed lung

Sean said the doctors confirmed that vaping was the cause of the collapsed lung. However, the fitness enthusiast claims the diagnosis came as a surprise as he had always been healthy – visiting the gym all seven days and even training in mixed martial arts.

But Sean says he now believes that he should not have started vaping. “I started vaping when I was 15 and the vape never left my hand. It was very, very habitual. It was really scary because I felt like I’d done it to myself. It was years of me just not treating my lungs how they should be treated.”

What is vaping?

Vaping or handheld e-cigarettes breathe a mist into your lungs through an electronic nicotine delivery system that heats a liquid of nicotine, flavoring, propylene glycol, and other additives into an aerosol that you inhale through a mouthpiece. Vaping causes severe breathing troubles, organ damage, addiction, and other conditions.

Even though vaping and smoking both involve inhaling nicotine and other substances into your lungs, both are super addictive and bring potential damage and chemicals into your body.

Doctors say small particles that you inhale while vaping cause inflammation, swelling, and irritation in your lungs, leading to permanent lung damage like scarring and narrowing of the tubes.
